Moisture Content Determination
Nem Tayini
📋
Test Procedure
1
Sample Preparation
Homogenize the bentonite sample. Break large particles and mix thoroughly.
Sample Amount: 50-100g (weigh with ±0.01g precision)
2
Container Preparation
A clean, dry container or porcelain crucible is weighed.
3
Wet Sample Weighing
Sample is placed in the container and weighed.
4
Drying Process
Dry in oven at 105°C ± 5°C until constant weight is achieved.
Duration: Minimum 4 hours or until constant weight is obtained
5
Dry Sample Weighing
Container + dry sample is cooled in desiccator and weighed.

Required Equipment
- ☑ Precision balance (0.01g sensitivity)
- ☑ Oven (105°C ± 5°C)
- ☑ Desiccator with cooling chamber
- ☑ Aluminum/Porcelain crucibles
- ☑ Sample spatula/knife
- ☑ Heat-resistant gloves
⚠️ Critical Warnings:
- If sample is not homogeneous, repeat with 3 subsamples taken from different areas.
- Constant weight: Difference between two consecutive weighings must be ≤ 0.1%.
- According to API 13A, results must be reported with 0.1% precision.
- For high moisture samples, pre-drying (in air environment) may be applied.
